In Atharvaveda, cow has been described as the mine of properties, thus revealing the importance of cow in that era (2000 B.C.). In Mahabharata, it can be seen that Sahadeva was famous as a specialist in Gavayurveda. The relation of Mathura and Gokul, Krishna and Gopalas were flourishing the importance of milk and it derivatives. It is similar to Gaja Ayurveda and Aswa Ayurveda. Some descriptions pertaining to the diseases and their treatment of goats and cows are available in “Sarangadhara Paddhati".
