When there are multiple contradicting observations, only a scholarly person can evaluate them and reach a proper finding. Such a method of obtaining knowledge is termed yukti. In Charaka samhita it is well explained that, only a physician with Yukti can excel in practice. Upamana is obtaining knowledge about an unknown thing by compiring with a similar familier thing.
