Koshtha-Aashaya Shareera

Koshta is otherwise known as mahasrota. The word koshta and ashaya refers to space inside the body containing different organs. Koshtangas are those contents or organs of koshta.the word ashaya also refers to space, but here it is organs with space inside, which is referred. It is a temporary store house for dosha, mala etc. Aamashaya, Agnyashaya, Pakwashaya, Mutrashaya, Raktashaya, Hruday, Unduka and Phupphusa is known as Koshtha. Fifteen Koshthangas are enumerated by charaka in vimana sthana. As per the Acarya Sushruta, the Koshtangas are eight in number; According to Vagbhata the Koshthangas are eleven. Ashaya is an accommodating space. It is seven in number. It includes vatashaya, pittashaya and kaphashaya instead of Hruday, Unduka and Phupphusa in koshta. Agnyashaya is not taken under ashaya, but susruta adds garbhashaya in case of females.
