Dosha dhatu and mala are the three basic principles of life. Dhatu nourished the body, supply nutrients to the other vital tissues, supports the body and keeps the body healthy. The sixth dhatu is embedded deep inside the Asthi, hence it is called as Majja. It is located inside cavities of sthula asthi. Ap (jala) mahabhuta is predominantly present in Majja dhatu. Extreme unctuousness is its chief property. One Anjali is its volume. Mastishka (brain) of ½ Anjali. is a component of Majja dhatu. Majja fills the cavities, controlls vata, lubricates and strengthens asthi, joints, and also sukra dhatu. If majja increases, it causes heaviness of eyes and body, joint oedema, eruptions etc. If majja is less, osteoporosis, fainting, blackouts etc are resulted. Asthi and sandhi are the roots of majja vaha srotas.
