The history and development of ayurveda since the origin, in chronological order is known as ayurveda itihasa.In addition to the details of authors and their publications the itihasa reveals the details of geological, ecological, social, economical, religious, political, cultural, traditional status, food habits, health practices, spread of diseases, modalities of treatments of different medical sciences, research programmes and the awareness of ayurveda.There are no recorded evidences to trace the historical events correctly in chronological order hence one should depend on vedas, history books, traveller's notes, books on other branches of science, and contemporary texts of related science.
